Happy Owl-O-Ween

I am always on the look out for fun holiday treats/favors. I made these for a Halloween get-together with kids, and I wanted to share them.

They were featured in the October issue of Southern Living. The picture below is their version.

I "tweaked" the recipe a little bit to make it more kid friendly (aka smaller Moon Pie=less sugar!)
I used the mini Moon Pies, in both chocolate and banana. I also found mini-Oreos for the eyes,

chocolate M&Ms for the eyeballs

and chocolate flavored candy corn for the beak.

I melted chocolate candy melts and used a pastry bag with a small round tip to pipe chocolate on the Moon Pie. This helps secure the eyes and beak!

I used sparkling orange sugar for the top of the owl

and a sparkling orange icing pen to write on the Moon Pies.
I also found Owl ribbon and tied ribbons at the base of the treats.

Owls are getting their faces on!

They are easy to transport. You can secure lollipop sticks when you're ready to serve or give away as favors. (My little girl turned 3 last week, so I made her a special #3).

I found little Halloween cups and filled them with the remaining candy corn. This helps secure the Owl-O-Ween treats in the cups.
